Windows 10: Anniversary Update (RedStone 1)

During the Microsoft Build 2016 conference, Microsoft announced the Windows 10 Anniversary Update which is coming on this summer. The update will be coming all major Windows Devices.

There are four major updates coming with RedStone 1;

  1. Windows Hello Biometric Security: You will be able to sign into supporting websites with Windows Hello biometric security.
  2. Windows Ink: It enabling you to write on your device as you do on paper, creating sticky notes, drawing on a whiteboard, and easily sharing your analog thoughts in the digital world. Windows Ink is integrated into apps like Maps, Microsoft Edge, and Office and will be easy to integrate into 3rd party apps with as few as two lines of code.
  3. Cortana: It will be available on your lock screen, giving you quicker access to your personal assistant for common tasks across all types of devices without unlocking your PC. Cortana can also complete certain notification-based tasks on your Windows or Android phone, such as receiving and sending text messages, on your PC. Developers now have full access to Cortana’s proactive intelligence through proactive actions, allowing your apps to perform tasks based on user context by linking existing actions in your deep-link enabled apps and websites.
  4. UWP Apps upon Xbox: The UWP apps come to Xbox through a Unified Windows Store and every Xbox One can become a dev kit, meaning every user can become an Xbox developer.

Further it is going to give you the most exclusive experience of your life. And for that you don’t need to wait a lot, its coming on this summer. So keep your devices ready for the wonderful experience with new update.

For developers, the great features like Windows Ink APIs, Windows Hello APIs and updated Cortana APIs were announced.

Following are the major improvements that are the part of the preview of the Windows 10 Anniversary SDK;

  • Background execution: Now you can run your application in the background without requiring two separate processes. Along with extended execution and opportunistic tasks, writing apps that run when they need to will become simpler and more powerful.
  • App Extensions: The UWP  platform is now supports App extensibility and allowing you to build an ecosystem based on your App. Microsoft Edge uses this technology for its own extensions.
  • Action Center in the Cloud: Enables your App to engage with users on all their devices. You can now dismiss notifications on one device and they will be dismissed everywhere.
  • Connected Devices: The new ways to connect, communicate and manage multiple devices and Apps. This technology enables Cortana extensibility and the new Action Center in the Cloud, and it’s being introduced today.
  • Windows Store & Dev Center: Introduce new tools include user roles in Dev Center, app flighting, improved Analytics, an analytics API that allows you to grab your data and use it outside of the dashboard, user segmentation and targeting, app subscriptions, advertising improvements, and much much more…

Further the updated SDK will also include thousands of new features and APIs…
