Well, there are many lessons we learn from our mentors around and at the same time, there are some lessons that we do learn from our own experiences. One of the key lessons which I experience was also taught me by a great mentor;
The higher you rise, the lonelier you become. People who approach you typically have some axe to grind. There’s typically more criticism than applause. So leaders go into their shell. Some become megalomaniacs, some become insecure. Almost everyone gets blinkered. Therefore it is imperative to have a trusted group of advisors who are both competent and brutally honest. When a leader fails, it’s almost always because they didn’t surround themselves with good advisors.
